You may recognize me from CCSD board meetings or from the front page of the newspaper the morning after a board meeting.
I usually arrive early, take a seat in the front row, and tell myself I will quietly observe as the Board of Trustees makes decisions for the nation's 5th largest school district, which serves 320,000 students and 42,000 employees, including myself. But then somehow I find myself at the podium, shaking my finger, and using my “teacher voice” to tell the school board what I think about how they’re running the Clark County School District. I’ve spent the last 5 years attending board meetings and speaking about what it’s really like in our schools, and what students and teachers need to succeed.
As uninterested as teenagers try to act, I know my 8th and 9th grade students watch the board meetings & they get a kick out of repeating parts of my speeches. Their favorite line seems to be
“Shame on you! SHAME!”
I've advised our educational leaders about everything from over-testing to better pay for employees to the importance of mental health in schools...
Year after year I've begged the Trustees to do the right things for our students- but the school board continues to let us down.
Well, I’m done begging. Enough is enough.
That’s why I decided to run for Trustee of the Clark County School Board. The election is November 3rd, 2020.
I hope I can count on your vote.
